Given that economic theory states that the use of protectionism creates efficiency costs and deadweight losses for an economy as well as foregoing the utilisation of a comparative advantage that allows gains through trade, protectionism was a particular ripe formality after the Second World War. Although since the 1940′s the world has seen a decline in protectionist measures policymakers still have the propensity to implement and support these seemingly rational measures of international economic policy.
